Residents are being asked to nominate an exceptional council employee or team to be crowned this year’s People’s Champion.
The Star Awards is Aberdeen City Council’s annual staff recognition awards and includes the People’s Champion, the only award that is nominated and voted for by the public.
Councillor Neil Copland, convener of Staff Governance Committee said: "Our dedicated staff go above and beyond every day to serve our city, and the People’s Champion award gives the public a chance to recognise their outstanding commitment and positive impact on our community.”
Nominations for the People’s Champion award must be an individual or team that:
- Works for Aberdeen City Council;
- Has a passion and commitment to making a difference whilst maintaining high standards in their council career, and;
- Whose contributions have had a substantial and positive impact.
The activity that the individual or team are being nominated for has to have taken place in the city between June 2024 and August 2025. Their contributions can be in the workplace, or as volunteers outside work, or both.
The nominations will then be reviewed before the top three finalists are chosen by an external panel made up of representatives from local voluntary groups, with the vote then reopening for the public to select their favourite from selected finalists.
Last year, Richard Ingram, Paddy Glenister and Jonny Cabrrelli, part of a team of Refuse Collectors, were awarded the 2024 People’s Champion.
You can vote for your 2025 People’s Champion online now: People's Champion 2025
Nominations close at 5pm on 22 October.
The winner of this year’s People’s Champion will be revealed at the Star Awards Ceremony in November.
