Aberdeen based Design and Code took home the trophy at the Scottish Tech Startup Awards, held on the November 28 at the Jam House in Edinburgh, where they were up against other top agencies from Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The Agency of the Year category acknowledges creative and technical excellence in areas such as impactful design, user experience and effective communication campaigns. It also takes into account the ability to attract and retain top-tier clients.
Founded in 2012 by Colin Leonard, Design and Code is home to a talented and diverse team of designers, developers and animators. They pair creative thinking with technical expertise to deliver effective campaigns across brand, print, motion and digital. The award recognises their long-term partnerships with global companies alongside their work with startups and social enterprises in a variety of sectors. Their personal project 'Glisk', a digital experience created for the 2019 Look Again Festival, was also considered by the judging panel.
The judges included Brian Corcoran of Turing Fest, Andy Robinson of Deliveroo and Gillian Docherty OBE from The Data Lab alongside other prominent names in the digital tech community.
Colin Leonard said “It's a fantastic achievement and thoroughly deserved by the team for all their hard work over the past year. We were up against stiff competition from some great agencies in the central belt so we're delighted to take the award back to the North-east”
He went on to add “It makes it more special that we were not only recognised for our commercial work but also the time we give to support projects that make a difference in the wider community. Getting involved and giving back is important to us and it's great to see this also being acknowledged. It's an exciting time to be part of the tech community in Aberdeen, there is a lot of investment and resources being made available through accelerator programmes such as TechX and the ONE Tech Hub which opened in June this year”.
