Northsound 2 is to become the first commercial radio station in Scotland to make the switch to digital from analogue.
A ‘NORTHSOUND 2 – WE’RE GOING DIGITAL!’ campaign was launched today to raise awareness of the planned switchover on Tuesday, April 3, and to inform listeners how to keep listening to the North-east’s ‘Greatest Hits’ station.
Digital listening offers a number of key benefits, including hugely improved sound quality, as well as the opportunity to listen anywhere, either online or through an app.
Although listeners will no longer be able to tune into Northsound 2 on the AM analogue frequency after the switchover, they can still listen on DAB Digital Radio, online at www.northsound2.com, via the Northsound app and via Smart speakers like Amazon Echo and Google Home.
Northsound 2 breakfast show presenter Alan Edwards and Home Run presenter Gina McKie today kicked off a series of events planned for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, to promote the change to listeners and what they need to do ahead of the switch.
Graham Bryce, group managing director for Bauer City Network (England and Scotland), said the switch to digital for Northsound 2 marks an exciting development in how we listen to radio in the North-east.
“Northsound 2 will be the first Scottish commercial radio station to complete the switchover to digital, which will allow us to provide fantastic broadcast quality and convenient listening on the move,” he said.
“Digital listening makes up nearly 50% of all radio consumption and is growing rapidly. Our transmitter site is being re-developed by the landlord, so we took the opportunity to take the station fully digital rather than invest significantly in a replacement transmitter that could be obsolete in a few years.
“We see this as an exciting opportunity for Northsound 2 to be a real trailblazer.”
Alan and Gina were at Aberdeen’s St Nicholas Street, accompanied by a giant GoGo Vision digital screen and members of the Northsound street team, handing out information flyers and answering any questions.
Visitors to the roadshow have the chance to win a DAB radio if they share a photo of themselves next to the giant screen on social media, using the hashtag #NS2Digital.
