Russian intelligence services reportedly considered Lord Mandelson one of their most "significant" achievements in "manipulating UK politics" in decades.
A confidential document compiled by Christopher Steele, a former head of MI6’s Russia desk, has claimed Mandelson was considered a "privileged contact" by Russian spies.
The Telegraph reports the leaked dossier, which was given the codename Project Fish, states Mandelson was considered “one of the most significant RIS [Russian intelligence services] achievements in manipulating UK politics” over the past 30 years, having first been contacted by the KGB soon after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
While the document claims the KGB contacted and had a file on Mandelson, it stops short of saying Mandelson spied for Russia. Telegraph sources close to Mandelson have also said the disgraced peer did not pass any information to Russia or do anything wrong.
The dossier alleges that, in addition to Mandelson, the Kremlin had files on Boris Johnson, Dominic Cummings, Nigel Farage, Jeremy Corbyn, and others.
Mr Steele and Lord Mandelson declined to comment.
