The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra starts their Scottish tour with a series of concerts featuring the GRAMMY® Award-winning pianist Geoffrey Keezer. This tour will take them to Fountainhall at the Cross, Aberdeen, on Saturday 30 September at 7.30pm.
The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra have an array of exciting concerts lined up this season, and they will start off with GRAMMY® Award-winning pianist Geoffrey Keezer as a high note.
GRAMMY®-winning pianist, composer, arranger and producer based in New York City, Keezer has worked with jazz legends including Art Blakey, Ray Brown and Wayne Shorter, duetted with Chick Corea, recorded with Diana Krall and toured with such popular figures as David Sanborn, Chris Botti and Sting. Chick Corea described Keezer’s playing as “beautiful” and his compositions as “very inspiring”.
Time Magazine wrote, “Geoffrey has more than enough virtuosity and sheer musical wit and intelligence to weave all of his apparently disparate strands of influence into an original and compelling whole”, and pop icon Sting said “In the universe of piano players that I have been exposed to over the years, Geoffrey has proved himself to be not only a superb technician and improviser, but also above and beyond this, a composer and conceptualist who can maintain the overall line and the DNA of the song in everything he plays. A musician’s musician.”
His skills as an arranger have enhanced the SNJO’s concerts with stirring adventures in sound and harmony over the past twenty years. Alongside Keezer’s own compositions, we will hear his unique arrangements of the music of Charlie Parker, Wayne Shorter, and John Coltrane.
The concert will take place in the Sanctuary at Fountainhall at the Cross (former Queen’s Cross in Albyn Place) where the captivating acoustic and atmosphere of the space will enhance the experience of the audience, making it one of the most magical moments of the season at the Cross.
