The prestigious Scottish Senior Curling Championships 2026 has launched with news of a substantial financial boost in an important year for the sport, thanks to investment from returning headline sponsor, independent Scottish broadband provider GoFibre.
The GoFibre Scottish Curling Senior Championships 2026 is a cornerstone of the sport’s calendar and excitement is high for the tournament this year as it takes place in a winter Olympic year, where British teams will be in strong contention for medals.
The tournament is taking place from 15–18 January at Curl Forfar, following its qualifying rounds which took place at the Forfar venue from 12–14 December 2025. Scotland’s top over-50s men’s and women’s teams will compete for the national title as well as the opportunity to represent Scotland at the World Senior Curling Championships in Switzerland. Both championships fall during an exciting year for curling with the Winter Olympics taking place in Italy in February.
It's an ideal time for GoFibre, Scotland’s fastest-growing broadband provider, to team up with the fast-growing sport of curling. Curling is one of the world’s oldest team sports, and it originated in the 16th century in Scotland, where games were played during winter on frozen ponds and lochs (1). It is an accessible and inclusive sport, which can be adapted to allow people of all ages and abilities to play. With both Team Scotland and Team GB excelling at recent European and World Curling Events, the Grand Slam of Curling, and the Winter Olympics, interest in curling is growing. (2)
Curl Forfar has a rich curling history and hosts reginal, national and international curling competitions. The sport is loved by many in the local community, and the club boasts over 1,000 members. (3)
GoFibre’s sponsorship of the Scottish Senior Curling Championships follows a significant period of growth for the company in north east Scotland. GoFibre has over 126,000 premises ready to connect to its whole full fibre broadband network, including over 15,000 in Angus, and over 6,000 in Forfar.
In July, GoFibre was chosen as the supplier to deliver full fibre broadband to around 63,000 hard-to-reach premises across north east Scotland as part of joint efforts by the UK and Scottish governments to supercharge internet access in mostly rural areas. Project Gigabit is the UK Government’s programme to enable hard-to-reach communities to access lightning-fast gigabit-capable broadband. The Scottish Government is playing a key role in delivering Project Gigabit procurements in Scotland by administering and managing the delivery of the contracts.

GoFibre has invested in the championships through its social impact strategy which aims to make a positive, long-term difference for its customers and their communities.
Neil Conaghan, chief executive at GoFibre, said: “As a fast-growing Scottish company, it’s exciting to witness a sport that has its origins in Scotland also booming. We’re proud to return as headline sponsor for the GoFibre Scottish Curling Senior Championships, and supporting the senior men’s and women’s teams, in what’s set to be a tremendous year for curling at all levels.
“At GoFibre, we admire the skill and commitment of the curling community, and the tournament looks set to be a thrilling event. We wish all of the players the very best of luck.”
Vincent Bryson, Scottish Curling CEO, said: “It’s a real privilege for us to have curling in Scotland supported so comprehensively by GoFibre. Our seniors’ competition is a huge part of the curling calendar in Scotland, with winners of both men's and women’s events going straight to represent Scotland at the World Championships in Geneva.
“Last year's event was a real celebration of the sport and to have GoFibre continue its commitment is fantastic. We are really looking forward to showcasing the best of curling in Scotland with GoFibre over the next few weeks.”
Mike Ferguson, managing director/sports manager, Forfar Indoor Sports, said: “In recent years, in ice rinks across the country, we have seen a significant increase in participants of all ages, thanks to Scottish Curling’s Try Curling programme, which helps to provide a pathway into the sport. We’re keen to maintain this momentum, and GoFibre’s sponsorship helps us to do this. The company’s support has enabled us to host this prestigious national curling competition at a local curling rink, where the traditions of the sport are only surpassed by our ambitions to help continue growing the sport in this Winter Olympic season.
“We thank GoFibre and look forward to hosting a terrific competition for the competitors, spectators, and friends and family to enjoy.”
