The Scottish FA, in partnership with Aberdeen FC, is encouraging more young people to explore becoming a referee.
Lewis Bell, youth ambassador for Scottish FA Referees - Aberdeen & District, has spoken about the rewarding journey he has enjoyed as a referee, and the important life skills it teaches you.
He said: "Refereeing isn’t just about knowing the laws of the game or making decisions on the pitch. It teaches you skills that stay with you for life - confidence, leadership, communication, decision-making under pressure, and resilience. These are qualities that benefit you at school, at work, and in everyday life.
"It also gives you a chance to stay involved in football in a really unique way, whether that’s starting out at grassroots or officiating at the top.
"Refereeing has been particularly rewarding for me and has provided me with so many opportunities I never would have imagined. Making my Highland League debut at 18 years old was a standout moment for me and proves that the opportunity is there for young people to step up and take it.
"So much can be achieved with hard work, support and commitment."
Lewis said he was "honoured" to have been appointed youth ambassador, and set out his goals for the position.
He said: "In my role as youth ambassador, I want to encourage more young people to take up refereeing and to make sure they feel supported every step of the way.
"I know from experience that refereeing can sometimes be challenging, but with the right guidance and community around you, it can also be one of the most rewarding journeys you can go on.
"My goal is to give young referees a voice, help them realise the benefits that refereeing can bring, and inspire them to see just how far the role can take them.
"Refereeing has given me so much already, and I hope to play my part in giving something back by helping the next generation of referees grow and succeed."
