The Aberdeen-based charity Somebody Cares Scotland is celebrating a double victory after winning Large Organisation of the Year and Volunteer of the Year at this year’s Celebrate Aberdeen Awards.

The awards, which recognise and honour the contribution of third sector organisations, volunteers, and community groups across the city, were held on Saturday night at P&J Live.

Somebody Cares took home the Large Organisation of the Year award in recognition of its far-reaching impact supporting individuals and families experiencing hardship across the North-East. The charity’s work includes providing free furniture, household goods, and food to those in need, as well as supporting local community initiatives.

One of the charity’s volunteers, John MacMillan, also won Volunteer of the Year, celebrating his outstanding commitment, reliability, and compassion in serving the local community.

Chief executive Dr Yekemi Otaru DUniv said: “We’re absolutely thrilled and humbled to be recognised in this way. So much of our work happens quietly — the kind of wins that don’t make headlines but change lives. To have a moment where our whole team, volunteers, supporters, and partners can be publicly celebrated is truly special. These awards belong to all of them.”

Somebody Cares extended its congratulations to all the finalists and winners, including fellow Large Organisation of the Year finalists Aberdeen Foyer and The Archie Foundation, as well as the six other category winners recognised on the night.

The awards were organised by Celebrate Aberdeen, with the Large Organisation of the Year category sponsored by Aberdeen Inspired.

Chair of the Board of Trustees Gordon Cowan noted: “I am so proud of all that our senior management team, staff and many volunteers do every day to make a positive impact, improving lives, alleviating poverty and delivering a range of crucial services to local communities across Aberdeen.”
