Lothians Speak Their Name is a project that was set up to create a quilt in memory of people who have died by suicide in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Each square of the quilt has been stitched by a bereaved family member or friend and represents the life of the person who has been lost.

The memorial quilt has been touring Scotland, in the hope that by seeing the quilt commemorating individuals and their lives (not just statistics), people would be inspired to start conversations about mental health and suicide and perhaps create their own quilt.

To coincide with the quilt’s visit to Aberdeen, a special service will be held on Sunday 26 April 2026 at 4pm at Fountainhall Church at The Stocket (in Harcourt Road) to remember those deaths that people can find particularly difficult to speak of. This includes suicides, miscarriages, still born or baby deaths, drug overdoses and others. There will be an opportunity to light a candle and remember as well as time for silent remembering, prayers and acknowledgment of the lives lost and the grief experienced.

The quilt will be on display in the sanctuary of Fountainhall Church at the Stocket, Harcourt Road, at 4 pm on Sunday 26 April and at the Fountainhall Church Centre, Beaconsfield Place, from Monday 27 April until Friday 15 May. Fountainhall Church Centre is generally open to the public from Monday to Friday from 9 am to noon.
