Steve Rae, executive director of Step Change in Safety and Adam Sheikh, Repsol Sinopec’s head of engineering and integrity, will be delivering talks at PIM’s upcoming integrity management event, ‘Sustainability, integrity management & the North Sea’. Steve and Adam will join Louise Atkin, HM principal specialist inspector from the HSE, who has already been announced as speaking at the event. Now in its third year, PIM’s conference is being held on Thursday, March 26, 2020 at the Sandman Signature Aberdeen Hotel.
Steven Plant, managing director of PIM, said, “We are delighted to have representatives from an industry body, an operator and a regulator joining the panel of speakers at our event. Steve, Adam and Louise will each consider the challenges the industry is facing from the different perspectives afforded by their varied positions within the industry. I will complete the first session of the afternoon, providing the contractor’s viewpoint.”
Adam and Steve are both members of the MER UK Asset Integrity Task Group (AITG). Set up in 2017, the AITG’s focus is to drive improvements in asset integrity across the UKCS with the aims of reducing hydrocarbon losses and extending the life of the basin through cross industry collaboration and cooperation. Adam has been the AITG lead since the group was formed.
Adam commented, “The world is changing around us and key to the success of our industry is our ability to adapt. The PIM conference brings together the perfect blend of individuals to discuss this challenge.”
Steve, who joined Step Change in Safety in 2018, has worked in the oil and gas industry for over 35 years. Steve’s experiences combined with his breadth of industry knowledge have resulted in his unparalleled drive to ensure the oil and gas industry continues to remain committed to delivering safe operations.
Unsurprisingly this viewpoint forms the basis for Steve’s talk. He added, “As we witness a generational shift in the workforce and a significant increase in the use of new technologies, such as digital twins, drones, blended training etc, how do we ensure our competency assurance systems remain relevant, current and capable of delivering continued safe operations?”
The day’s programme will also deliberate the sustainability of the supply chain as well as contemplating the future of integrity management in the oil and gas industry.
