John Swinney's re-appointment as First Minister will today be formally approved by the King before a signing-in ceremony at the Court of Session.
SNP leader Swinney secured the nomination to remain First Minister following a Holyrood vote.
While the leader's of the Scottish Parliament's five other parties also stood in the vote, the SNP's election success made the FM vote a formality.
The BBC reports Swinney told MSPs he would provide "reliable, trusted leadership in turbulent times".
He outlined priorities including easing the cost of living, improving the NHS, growing the economy and protecting the environment while also pledging "ambitious, practical" steps towards Scottish independence.
Swinney has occupied the role of First Minister for two years since taking over from Humza Yousaf.
He will appoint a cabinet later today.
