Taking fundraising to new heights

Seven Moray locals will conquer their fear of heights by taking part in a 50ft charity abseil in Lossiemouth.

North East Sensory Services (NESS) supporters will descend from new heights to raise vital funds for sensory impaired people in Moray.

The Seafest Abseil, in partnership with Outfit Moray, will take place on Saturday, July 7 2018, at Grampian Furnishers building, Lossiemouth.

NESS, which has offices in Elgin, Aberdeen and Dundee, supports more than 6,000 people in the north-east who have sight or hearing loss. The charity helps those with a sensory impairment to overcome the practical and emotional effects of serious sight and/or hearing loss, as well as guiding them to achieve more independence.

Bruce Cruickshank, assistant fundraiser for North East Sensory Services, who is registered blind and Ashleigh MacPherson, volunteer for NESS, who is partially sighted, will descend from the 50ft building along with five other volunteers in aid of the charity.

Mr Cruickshank who lost his sight in December 2010, has been working for NESS in fundraising for over two years now. He loves a new challenge and is a great inspiration for others considering taking part in the event. To date, his most accomplished challenge was the 25 mile cycle in the Glen Moray Sportive bike ride in 2015.

Graham Findlay, chief executive officer for NESS said: “NESS is always looking at different opportunities to raise funds through fundraising events and donations to help run the vital services we offer. We are delighted to have seven participants taking on this challenge and conquering their fears. We are always extremely grateful for the generosity of our friends and volunteers.”

With the success of the event last December, organisers decided to hold another one to help raise funds for charities. All ages can take part in the event, which is open to those who turn up in the afternoon.
