The P&J has announced a three-stop regional roadshow designed to put local voices at the heart of its 2026 editorial agenda.

The Press and Journal Roadshow: Your voice of the north will take place across Inverness, Elgin and Aberdeen in November, bringing editors and journalists face to face with its readers and the people shaping the future of their regions.

Involving panel discussions with reporters regarding the major issues affecting each area and a public Q&A, the roadshows will give a rare insight into the workings of the largest regional news publisher in the area. The roadshow is also a fact-finding mission.

Led by Editor Craig Walker and senior members of his team, it will gather community perspectives, concerns and successes to drive new campaigns and strengthen coverage, so it reflects local priorities.

Listening first, acting with impact

The Roadshow’s core mission is to hear directly from the people The P&J serve and use those insights to guide campaigns, investigations and news gathering in 2026.

By listening to subscribers, community groups, local leaders and businesses, the newsroom will co-create campaigns rooted in the real concerns of the north of Scotland - from transport and housing to education, jobs and local services.

Craig Walker said: “Brands like The Press and Journal are vitally important to ensure communities have a champion. Their voices need to be heard and concerns raised – they need someone in their corner. At the same time, they need someone to amplify what is great about where we live.

"This is what The P&J aims to do every single day. Our communities and region is the focal point for our journalism and always will be.

"That's why we want to hear from you about what you think matters and allow you to hear from us about why this region matters to us too.”

Key goals of the Roadshow

  • Position The P&J as the leading champion for local communities
  • Deepen relationships with subscribers and civic stakeholders
  • Showcase the impact of P&J journalism - from RAAC to bus gates
  • Highlight editorial and digital investment across our regions
  • Involve communities and businesses in shaping future campaigns
  • Turn community insight into newsroom action

Dates and locations

Each session runs from 6pm–8pm and features a mix of editorial presentation, discussion, Q&A and insight gathering. Senior editors will be joined by area, live, politics and business journalists specific to each location.

Booking information

Attendance is free but spaces are limited. Those wishing to take part can register through Eventbrite.

Attendees will receive a confirmation email with event details and accessibility information.

Journalism in action

Attendees will hear how The Press and Journal reporting has shaped public debate and change at both local and national levels - covering issues such as:

  • RAAC
  • Bus gates
  • NHS wait times
  • Connectivity

Local editorial teams will highlight stories grounded in each region and explain how readers helped shape that coverage.

What happens to the feedback?

During each roadshow, attendees can share views verbally, ask our editorial team questions and have the opportunity to help shape our news agenda in 2026 via a short digital survey. All feedback will be gathered by The P&J insights and editorial teams.

After each stop, a short “What we heard” summary will be compiled. These will directly inform the 2026 editorial and campaign agenda and will also be shared back with participants and published online.

Themes raised across all three events will be reviewed early next year to shape investigations, opinion work, local campaigns and community partnerships.

Powering our communities

The Roadshow reinforces The P&J’s mission to deliver journalism with impact and accountability - and to stand alongside the people it serves.

“Our journalists all live and work in our communities and are proud of the regions we serve. This is why it's important to us too, to deliver meaningful change, platform the successes of our local businesses and residents and campaign for the things that matter most to those who live alongside us,” said Deputy Head of News and Sport Rebecca Buchan.
