Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) has today been announced as a finalist at this year’s Northern Star Business Awards, the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards event.
AECC are up for the Student Placement Award; nominated by Hannah Mitchell, an under-graduate student at the city’s Robert Gordon University, who has recently completed a year-long placement at the venue in the sales and marketing department, taking on the role of sales researcher.
Hannah who is about to begin her final year of the BA (Hons) International Tourism Management, completed the placement with AECC in May, which saw her focusing on the associations market; carrying out industry research and creating solid leads.
Hannah commented: “During my time at AECC I was exposed to the business tourism and events industry, which I had no previous knowledge of - but the close mentoring I received and the experience gained meant that I completed my placement feeling confident in this field. As testament to this, I have decided to make this the focus of my final research project. I’m delighted that my nomination led to AECC being shortlisted as finalists, I learned so much in my time with the company and gained skills and confidence for taking forward into my future career.”
Louise Stewart, sales and marketing director at AECC, commented: “Hannah was a fantastic addition to the team; she successfully researched and added qualified sales leads for high profile international association conferences, boosting the sales pipeline for the current and new venue through to 2024. This additional resource strengthened AECC's position and identified the need for this resource on a permanent basis which we are currently recruiting for. Hannah excelled herself and is a credit to herself, RGU and the placement programme.”
The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on Thursday October 5.
