An ambitious attempt to set a new world record for the fastest half marathon runner wearing a kilt will take place at the inaugural Simply Health Great Aberdeen Run on August 27. VisitAberdeenshire is appealing for wannabe world record holders to register on their website www.visitabdn.com/gar for their chance to be the kilted record holder.

The Guinness Book of Records does not currently have a record set for this challenge, but has stipulated that to be considered as a genuine new world record, the time must be less then 01:30:00. The kilted runner will have to speed his way around the 13.1mile half marathon route, which starts and finishes on the city’s main thoroughfare Union Street, and includes some of the city’s most famous attractions including the world’s second largest granite building Marischal College and Old Aberdeen.
Chris Foy, chief executive of VisitAberdeenshire says, “The launch of the inaugural Simply Health Great Aberdeen Run has captured the attention of people locally and nationally alike, and it is a very exciting time for the region as it prepares to welcome thousands of visitors. We’re always looking for new and interesting ways to promote the region, and it doesn’t get any more exciting than a world record attempt.

“Aberdeen is a vibrant and lively place during the summer, with plenty of outdoor activities to keep the family entertained, and I hope visitors get the opportunity to explore the local area during their stay. The Simply Health Great Aberdeen Run is a fantastic addition to the busy North-east events calendar, and I’m looking forward to seeing if we can set a new world record later this month.”

VisitAberdeenshire would like to hear from runners who are registered to compete in the Simply Health Great Aberdeen Run half marathon, and are expecting to complete the route in less than 01:30:00 to register at www.visitabdn.com/gar for their chance to be a world record holder.
