VSA COVID-19 Appeal

Aberdeen based charity, Aberdeen Association of Social Services (known as VSA) announced that it has launched a COVID-19 appeal to help support the people in their care. VSA has 22 residential sites across Aberdeen City who care for some of the most vulnerable people in Aberdeen.

VSA has been caring for the people of Aberdeen for 150 years, and during that time have supported generations of families through both world wars, Spanish Influenza Outbreak, and the Aberdeen Typhoid Outbreak. The coronavirus outbreak is one of the most challenging they or any of us have had to face in our lifetime, and now more than ever VSA, need the support of the people of Aberdeen.

VSA have been very proactive in implementing stringent protocols across all of their sites, some of the key measures taken have been to; suspend all visitation unless for exceptional circumstances, ceased construction on their new mental health facility based in Aberdeen, provided further technology to their sites, to ensure residents can keep in contact with their loved one(s) and purchased medical equipment to enable staff to undertake basic medical checks should this have to be reported to medical professionals.

With their new appeal they would like to buy more iPads so that their residents can maintain visual contact, purchase entertainment trolleys that have interactive digital technologies to keep residents minds simulated, complete vital mental health support and counselling sessions via video and also to recruit more staff to provide care and support to vulnerable people.

Kenneth Simpson, Chief Executive commented: “Our team of carers and support workers are working tirelessly to ensure that the vulnerable people in our care do not feel alone or isolated at this time. The health and wellbeing of the people we care for and our staff is of the utmost priority for VSA. This is our 150th year of providing the best of care to the vulnerable people in the North East of Scotland, during those years we have faced many challenges and I know that with your support, we can continue caring for some of the most vulnerable people in Aberdeen and surrounding areas.”

“I know this is a worrying time for everyone, and you will naturally be concerned about your own circumstances, however, by making a donation to VSA whether that be £1, £10 or whatever you can afford would be greatly appreciated and help us support the vulnerable people in our care"

Every £1 donated will go towards their COVID-19 response, to support VSA visit their website www.vsa.org.uk
