Delegates attending Oil & Gas UK’s annual conference will be able to take lessons from other sectors which have adapted and evolved to emerge from their own form of downturn.

Nora Senior, current President of the British Chambers of Commerce and Chair of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, will give insights as to how other industries have either rejuvenated, reinvigorated or reinvented themselves in order to cope with difficulties when she addresses The UK Oil and Gas Industry – Open for Business conference on June 14 and 15.

The BCC President will also discuss the opportunities that exist - both here and internationally - that could really help consolidate the UK Continental Shelf’s position as a centre for excellence for skills and capabilities.

The former Business Woman of the Year said: “The ability to adapt to challenges and change as an industry is critical if new opportunities are to be harnessed.

“Other sectors have been faced with similar economic downturns: the motor industry, steel, shipbuilding. Those who have successfully transformed themselves are those who have proactively looked at exploiting new partnerships, exploring new technology systems and channels that allow them to reach out to and engage new audiences and customers. The question is: does the oil and gas industry have the ambition and the appetite.”

Stephen Marcos Jones, Director of Business Excellence, said: “We are delighted Nora Senior is helping to open our conference which is very much about showcasing the many opportunities that exist for the UK oil and gas industry. Nora has a fantastic breadth of experience in many different sectors including property, construction, finance, healthcare and technology. That wisdom should be of great interest to our own sector which, despite its current difficulties, still has a bright future.”
