Campaigner to speak at Grampian award dinner

Former Big Brother winner, global youth campaigner and social entrepreneur, John Loughton, has been revealed as keynote speaker for the 38th Grampian Industrialist Awards.

John, who gained fame in 2008 after winning Big Brother Celebrity Hijack, grew up in one of Scotland’s most deprived areas, overcoming this to become the youngest ever Chairman of the Scottish Youth Parliament, having led his first political campaign aged just 11. He is now CEO of leadership company Dare2Lead and has advised successive governments on topics such as the British Constitution and family and relationship policy. He has also addressed heads of government at the G8 and G20 summits and was named Outstanding Youth of the World in 2013.

The annual award dinner will take place on Friday, October 23 at Ardoe House Hotel & Spa and will also feature a speech from last year’s Grampian Industrialist winner, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Harbour Board, Colin Parker.

Now in its 38th year, the Grampian Industrialist award, run by young professional organisation Junior Chamber International (JCI) Aberdeen, is one of the most prestigious events in the local business calendar. Previous winners include some of the area’s most notable and influential business people.

JCI Aberdeen 2015 President, Kim John said “We are delighted to have secured John as a speaker. We’re sure his positive story will resonate with our business audience, and offer something unique to this event.”

Submissions for this year’s award close on Friday, September 4. For nomination forms, as well as table bookings, contact industrialist@jciaberdeen.org.uk
