Moray respite care services run by social care charity, Cornerstone, have been awarded the highest grades possible in their latest Care Inspectorate reports.

The Birchview and Doocot View respite units in Elgin and Buckie provide a respite service to adults with a learning disability and aim to deliver high-quality, supportive respite in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Those supported by the services have access to local activities and the opportunity of increased participation in the community.

In their latest Care Inspectorate inspections, the services received grade 6 ‘excellent’ across all areas, and service manager, Colinne Higgins, is continuing to look for ways to improve the offering.

“Whilst we have received sixes for both services, we as a team always strive to reach a higher standard,” she said.

“We will always try and make the services the best we possibly can and we are always looking for new ideas to improve how we consult with the people we support and their families.

“It is important to us as a team that we continually foster close relationships with families and professionals so this, also, is always at the forefront of our minds.

“I feel the Care Inspectorate gradings are a great achievement and I am really proud to manage two services and the teams which have been completely instrumental in achieving these results.

“Our staff are very well trained and are able to provide a high standard of support to a diverse client group, continually working hard to make the service run smoothly and effectively.”

Local Councillor, Kirsty Reid, who recently opened Cornerstone’s new office in Elgin, commented: “I am delighted for all the Cornerstone staff and people who are supported at Birchview and Doocot View.

“To have the hard work and commitment which goes into offering a high standard of service recognised is a wonderful achievement.

“Cornerstone plays a huge role in Moray as the largest learning disability care provider outside of Moray Council, so to have achieved excellent gradings across these services is a huge accomplishment.”

Cornerstone provides care and support services for adults, young people and children across Scotland who live with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, dementia and other support needs.

Since 1980, it has grown to become a leading charity, supporting over 2,600 people each year and delivering services across 20 local authority areas in Scotland.
