If you go down to The Store’s open day you’re in for a big surprise

A North-east farming enterprise is inviting people to don their wellies and sample life at the farm when it opens its doors to the public in June.

Award-winning family-run business, The Store, which is based in Foveran on the outskirts of Ellon, will be offering people the opportunity to go behind the scenes during its open day on Sunday, June 5, as part of Open Farm Sunday 2016.

The national event organised by LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) takes place annually to inspire and encourage more farmers to open their gates to encompass all types of British farming, from how crops are grown, and animals cared for, to how we manage our countryside.

The Store, which is run by four generations of farmers and has its own on-site butchery, farm shop, deli and coffee shop, attracted more than 2,500 visitors from across the region last year to the popular event.

Activities during the 2016 open day will include tractor and trailer rides, farm machinery displays, a falconry display, crafts for children, sheep shearing displays and a bouncy castle and play area with farm toys. Guests will also have the chance to milk a plastic milking cow, make sausages, and meet some of the farm animals.

Local businesses will also be showcasing their produce during a farmers’ market on the day, and the recently launched Farmer’s Grill will be serving up a selection of The Store’s Aberdeen Angus steaks, burgers and hot dogs.

Owner of The Store, Andrew Booth, said: “We have been running the open days for a number of years now and they have always been a huge success with members of the public eager to learn about farming, the countryside and all rural matters. They offer the ideal opportunity to demonstrate exactly what we strive to deliver, showcasing our farm to fork ethos perfectly.

“There is something on offer for the young and old alike, with demonstrations and tours taking place throughout the day. We want people to get as hands on aspossible and have organised a number of exciting educational activities forguests to get involved with, demonstrating life at The Store.”
