Meaning fun, joke and jest in Gaelic, Befriend a Child’s Fealla-dhà Fling – the charity’s first ceilidh event - will bring together the local Aberdeen community to dance the night away with music from well-known local Ceilidh band, Iron Broo, bringing a touch of tartan to Aberdeen’s Trinity Hall on Friday, November 10, 7pm-midnight.

Kicking off early St Andrews Day celebrations, a piper will greet guests at the iconic Trinity Hall, where they will be welcomed with a glass of fizz before sitting down to a light Scottish supper, followed by themed games. The Iron Broo Ceilidh Band will then kickstart the night of reels, by entertaining guests throughout the evening, offering instruction and encouragement to well-known Scottish dances.

Claire Bain, Senior Fundraising Coordinator said: “It is set to be a fun filled night! No matter if you’re a regular ceilidh-goer or a complete newbie, we would be absolutely delighted to have your company for the evening. All funds raised from the event will go directly to support the many local young people we support.”

Befriend a Child supports children and young people living in difficult life circumstances across Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire through 1:1 and group befriending and mentoring programmes and projects. Over the years Befriend a Child's provision of programmes and projects has grown and today the charity supports approximately 250 children annually.

Children can be referred to Befriend a Child for several reasons such as a lack of confidence or self-esteem, social isolation, lack of a positive role model and substance misuse in the family.

Sarah Misra, CEO at Befriend a Child said: “Through providing a positive adult role model, our volunteers help to reduce social isolation and improve the overall wellbeing and quality of life of the children and young people we support. Our fundraising events are essential to ensuring we are able to continue our services for disadvantaged children across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. Our Fealla-dhà Fling is set to be a great night and we hope our incredibly generous community will get behind the event.”

Individual tickets for the evening cost £45 with tables of ten for £450. The charity also has two sponsorship opportunities on offer, The Flying Scotsman Package for £2,500 and The Dashing White Sergeant Package for £1,500.
