Catering business Entier donates hot meals to homeless charity

Scotland’s largest independent catering company, Entier has donated 30 hot festive meals to a North-east charity which supports people affected by homelessness.

Entier delivered the three-course lunch dishes to Aberdeen Cyrenians’ Street Alternatives service on Aberdeen’s Summer Street on Friday, December 28.

Each meal comprised soup, steak pie and accompaniments, and trifle and was served in the charity’s kitchen to a group of service users.

Entier already supports Aberdeen Cyrenians by delivering surplus in-date food to the charity on a weekly basis.

Peter Bruce, Entier’s CEO, said: “Homelessness is such a stark and real issue here in Aberdeen and something that is simply not acceptable in modern times.

“By providing meals over the festive season, as well as throughout the year, we hope to help a number of people less fortunate than ourselves.

“As a company, we are committed to giving back to the local community and feel this is such an appropriate way for us to lend our support and ensure that we continue to work with a very worthy cause in a meaningful way.”

Representatives from Entier also took part in the recent ‘Sleep In The Park’ event, which was organised by social enterprise Social Bite and saw mass sleep-outs take place in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow in a bid to raise funds to end homelessness in Scotland.

Kate Loades, Aberdeen Cyrenians fundraising manager, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the support that Entier has provided us with, not just in terms of the Christmas-themed meals that have been donated, but also for the food donations we receive throughout the year.

“Eating a meal is not just about getting the vital nutrition that the body needs, but is also about coming together to enjoy the company of others. So there’s a really important social aspect as well as a dietary one.

“This time of year can be an exceptionally challenging time, so to be able to offer service users the chance to sit down inside and enjoy a hot meal with friends is a great thing to be able to do.”

Aberdeen Cyrenians was established in 1968 and over the past 50 years the range of services it offers has grown considerably. Originally just providing food and shelter, the charity now aims to meet all the varying needs of people affected by homelessness in Aberdeen and the surrounding area.

Established in 2008 and employing 591 people, Entier is Scotland’s largest independent, privately-owned catering company, operating across 22 countries.
