Local family support charity, Home-Start Aberdeen, has been awarded £60,687 in funding for 2026 from the Fairer Aberdeen Fund, enabling the charity to continue providing vital support to families with young children across the city.

The Fairer Aberdeen Fund, provided and administered by Aberdeen City Council, supports local projects tackling poverty and deprivation. In the last year alone, the fund supported 36 projects, reaching over 52,000 people, with 752 volunteers contributing more than 137,000 hours of support across Aberdeen.

Home-Start Aberdeen is one of a number of organisations delivering frontline support to families facing a range of challenges, including financial hardship, social isolation and mental health difficulties. Through its network of trained volunteers, the charity provides practical and emotional support to help parents build confidence, strengthen relationships and create stable home environments.

Through Fairer Aberdeen funding, Home-Start has already demonstrated meaningful impact. Over the last year, 30 families in priority areas were supported, with many reporting reduced isolation, improved physical and mental health and stronger emotional wellbeing for their children.

Cameron McCready, Chief Executive of Home-Start Aberdeen, said: “The continued support from the Fairer Aberdeen Fund allows us to be there for families at a time when many are facing increasing pressures, whether that’s financial strain, isolation or challenges with their mental wellbeing.

“Early intervention and consistent support can make a lasting difference, not just for parents, but for their children too. This funding helps us continue to provide that support to families throughout our city communities.

“We’re proud to be part of a wider network of organisations across Aberdeen working together to tackle poverty and inequality. The impact of this funding goes far beyond individual services.  It strengthens communities and ensures families feel supported, not alone.”

The Fairer Aberdeen Fund plays a critical role in supporting community-led services across the city, helping to address inequality and improve outcomes for individuals and families living in some of Aberdeen’s more deprived areas.

Home-Start Aberdeen has been supporting families in the city for over 35 years and continues to work closely with partners across health, education and the third sector to ensure families receive the right support at the right time.  For more information visit:  www.homestartaberdeen.org.uk
