SSE Thermal, a leading developer of flexible low carbon energy across the UK and Ireland, has appointed Karen Watt as a Community Liaison Officer to support its ambitious carbon capture and storage plans in Peterhead.

Karen Watt joins SSE Thermal from Stewart Milne Group’s Countesswells housing development in Aberdeen, bringing more than eight years of office management and community engagement experience.

She is responsible for community engagement activity for both the operational power station and the Peterhead Carbon Capture Power Station project.

The appointment comes as SSE Thermal launched ‘A vision for the UK’s net zero transition’ which calls on the UK government to turbocharge the delivery of low-carbon technologies to deliver a net zero power system by 2035.

Karen Watt said: “I am looking forward to fostering strong relationships with local communities and businesses in Peterhead and across Aberdeenshire. This is an exciting time for our work in the region where we can support the transition to net zero while maximizing the benefits of new low-carbon projects for workers and communities in the north-east of Scotland.”
