A gritter, a police car and a fire engine will be on show during a winter safety event in Aberdeen city centre on Saturday.
The vehicles are part of the Aberdeen City Council-organised initiative where people and families can get up close to the vehicles and learn about how to keep safe this winter.
From Aberdeen City Council, there will be information on road safety, gritting, the one-tonne community salt bags scheme, cycling, environmental health, recycling, along with the City Wardens.
Police Scotland officers will be there to give information on keeping safe over winter including home security, retail safety, road safety and partying safe, and Scottish Fire and Rescue officers will be there with information regarding the Home Fire Safety Visit service they can provide which is particularly effective in reducing the risk of fire in the homes of the more vulnerable members of our communities.
Aberdeen City Council Communities, Housing and Infrastructure convener Councillor Neil Cooney said: “Winter can be a difficult time for people, whether it’s getting around or remembering to have extra safety or security precautions with the dark nights. We want to show folk what they can do to help themselves, and what free advice they can get which may assist in getting winter-ready.
“This event means that folk can get up close to a gritter as they might not see them in the mornings before they go to work or school - early morning gritting (salting) starts at 4.45am, so most of the vehicles are back at the depot before people leave their homes.
“Everyone is welcome to come along, see the vehicles up close and find out information which can help them plan for a safer and more security-conscious winter.”
Chief Inspector Graeme Mackie said: "Police Scotland has run the festive strand of Operation Oak in Aberdeen City Centre successfully for several years now.
“We will be expecting tens of thousands of additional visitors to Aberdeen on a daily basis and we welcome them. We encourage people to enjoy what Aberdeen has to offer but to do so in a safe and responsible manner. We will be increasing patrols at key times to ensure the city is as safe and welcoming as it can be.
"If you are enjoying a drink over the festive period remember that drinking too much can impair your judgement and make you more vulnerable to finding yourself in situations you would not normally find yourself in sober.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Station Manager Mike Cordiner said: “We want to see a reduction in the number of house fires over the busy winter period and we will be working with partners and the public to try and achieve this. Crews will also be demonstrating the specialist equipment that gets used at serious road traffic collisions, hoping that it sees little use over the festive period”.
The event is being held on the pedestrian area on Union Street outside Marks and Spencer’s from 9am to approximately 3pm, and all are welcome to stop and chat with any representatives from the organisations involved. It should be noted that if there is an emergency, the vehicles may be called away from the winter safety event.
